The Kazi Mtaani initiative is officially back under the Climate Workx Youth Employment Initiative that will see 113, 000 young people enrolled for manual jobs within a period of 6 months starting end of June 2025.
The initiative, which has received a Ksh.5 billion kitty from the Ministry of Roads, will take place in 46 counties excluding Nairobi, which the government says already has a similar initiative involving more than 20,000 youth.
Youth from the said 46 counties seeking the temporary manual jobs now have 10 days to register online before being subjected to a manual recruitment exercise that will be presided over by chiefs and assistant chiefs.
The government, through Principal Secretaries Charles Hinga (Housing), Raymond Omollo (Interior) and Joseph Mbugua (Roads), stated that only one family member is qualified for enrollment, with priorities given to low income earning families.
“We’re targeting low income personalities aged between 20-35 with an aim of improving their livelihoods,” said PS Hinga.
PS Omollo noted: “We have had a well-coordinated program in Nairobi that seals all loopholes such as politicians’ interference.”
“The works will involve pathways too…bridges…” PS Mbugua added, on his part.
The re-introduction of the Kazi Mtaani initiative during President William Ruto's mid-term comes after he expressed his low opinion of it as Deputy President and scrapped it soon after becoming Head of Government.
